Small photovoltaic (pv) net metering (or net energy metering) system with 2.7kW power of solar panels on a flat roof at Zografou/Goudi area, Athens (Attica)

In the urban environment of Athens, in Zografou/Goudi area, a photovoltaic (pv) net metering energy system was installed on a private  building  roof to produce electricity from only five solar panels with a power of 540W each. The net energy metering photovoltaic system will be able to cover the annual electricity needs of a four member family living in an apartment of 102 sq.m. The apartment has typical household electricity consumptions such as kitchen appliances, three air conditioning-split type units, solar heating system for domestic hot water with electric assistance (during cloudy days of winter), etc. The aluminum base of the photovoltaic (pv) panels was installed on the perimeter side wall of the terrace without drilling at all the recent insulation which was kept intact. The photovoltaic (pv) array can be expanded with one additional panel which will be placed in a predefined area on the existing aluminum system base. Special care was taken to avoid shading of the photovoltaics (pv) from the nearby elevator shaft and also the ending part of the building staircase. The photovoltaic (pv) energy production can be monitored through a smartphone application or using a computer (web platform) and the user can be informed about the online solar electric power output and energy produced during a day, week, month or year.
