Photovoltaic (pv) net metering (or net energy metering) system of 8.64kW on a ceramic tiled roof at Anixi, Attica, Greece

Due to increased electricity needs, the owners of the villa were looking for a photovoltaic (pv) net metering energy system in order to offset by the energy produced from the sun. The system reduces electricity/energy bills by more than 50-60% (including kwh cost, distribution & transmission fees, ETMEAR fee, adjustment clause, etc.). The photovoltaic (pv) panels were placed above two ceramic tiled roofs with different orientations and a proper design to avoid shadows from nearby obstacles such as solar heating panels, boilers, big chimneys, etc. In this way the produced solar energy is maximized even during winter days. The photovoltaic (pv) panels are anchored and secured on an aluminum base structure with respect to the waterproofing of the entire ceramic roof. The solar (pv) panels of each roof are electrically isolated to achieve independent operation without affecting each other with the use of a special kind of electronic inverter. The system was designed to produce the required electric energy of a heat pump operating during the winter but also charge an electric car, minimizing the corresponding costs. With the use of photovoltaic net metering energy systems the users can have free energy for heating and electric car mobility without worrying about oil or gas price changes any more. Special care has been taken to ensure that the entire system can be expanded with more photovoltaic (pv) panels if this need arise in the future. The energy produced by the photovoltaics is monitored on a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis through a special digital smartphone application or a computer connecting to a web portal.
